New Microsoft Defender for Endpoint simplified Onboarding experience for Android devices



Whether your organisation supports BYOD, COPE, or fully-managed devices, robust security solutions are a must. MDE now offers a simplified onboarding experience for Android devices, making it easier than ever to protect your mobile workforce.


Key Benefits of the New Onboarding Process

  • Silent sign-on

  • Automatic permission granting,

  • Users are only prompted to grant essential permissions, making the process quicker and more streamlined.

  • The onboarding process is compatible with multiple Android profiles, including BYOD, COPE, and fully-managed environments, offering broad coverage and flexibility across different organizational needs.


Set up is straightforward

As an Admin:

  • Push the Defender for Endpoint app to the target user group.

  • Push a VPN profile to the user’s device.

  • In Apps > Application configuration policies, select Managed Devices.

  • Name the policy, choose Android Enterprise as the platform, select the appropriate profile type, and target the Microsoft Defender: Antivirus app.

  • Add runtime permissions, including Location access (fine) (not supported for Android 13+), POST_NOTIFICATIONS, and set them to Auto grant.


As a User:

  • Download the Company Portal app and set up your work profile with your credentials.

  • Follow prompts in the Company Portal to onboard the Defender for Endpoint app.

  • Open the Defender for Endpoint app, which will sign you in automatically and direct you to a permissions screen. Grant the necessary permissions to complete onboarding.
